Pick Appediet if you want photo, barcode and label scanning with a 108-nutrient database, diet plans and fasting, on iPhone or Android, and you plan to pay for Premium. • Appediet does not publish prices. The App Store lists ten Premium items from $6.99 to $79.99, with yearly plans at $39.99, $49.99 and $79.99. MyFoodBuddy is $39.99 a year or $7.99 a month.
  • Since around March 2026, many reviewers say searching, scanning and photo logging ask for Premium, where the free version used to run on ads.

  • Appediet claims 108 nutrients per food. MyFoodBuddy tracks 20+ vitamins and minerals from USDA, Edamam and Open Food Facts data.
  • Appediet runs on iPhone and Android. MyFoodBuddy is iPhone only.

Appediet vs MyFoodBuddy, feature by feature

Both call themselves AI calorie counters, but the AI sits in different places. Appediet uses it to read photos and answer questions in a chat. MyFoodBuddy uses it to turn a sentence about your meal into logged foods. Here is the full picture from Appediet’s listing, website, terms and release notes.

The two rows that matter most are how you log and what is free. Appediet is built around the camera, a photo or a barcode per item. MyFoodBuddy is built around one sentence for the whole meal. And Appediet’s free version has shrunk in 2026, which is the main thing recent Appediet reviews talk about.

How Appediet works day to day

Appediet is made by Appediet Information Pte. Ltd. in Singapore. It launched on the App Store in August 2023 and was on version 1.68 in October 2026. Its website has a short quiz, a blog and a FAQ. Here is the flow it describes.

  1. Take the quiz. A one-minute quiz on your body type and goal builds a weight management plan.
  2. Log a meal. Snap a photo for the AI food scanner, scan a barcode or a nutrition label, or search the database by food name. Since September 2026 you can edit protein, carbs and fat in a scan result and pick from alternative matches.
  3. Read the breakdown. Calories, macros and, Appediet says, up to 108 nutrients, with a diet evaluation after you log.
  4. Follow a plan. Diet plans, intermittent fasting, carb cycling, workouts and recipe recommendations.
  5. Ask the assistant. An AI health assistant chat answers nutrition questions and suggests recipes.
  6. Track progress. Weight, water, mood, streaks and reports, with height, weight, steps and workouts read from Apple Health.

How MyFoodBuddy works day to day

MyFoodBuddy has no food search screen. You describe the meal and the AI coach, Fiona, does the looking up.

  1. Say what you ate. Type or speak one sentence, like “two eggs, toast with butter and a coffee with oat milk.”
  2. Fiona logs it. She splits the sentence into foods and amounts, looks each one up and shows a card with calories, protein, carbs and fat. Tap Log it.
  3. Scan packaged food. The barcode scanner reads Open Food Facts, with USDA branded data as a backup.
  4. Fix anything by chatting. Tell Fiona the portion was bigger and she updates the entry.
  5. Ask questions. What is left for today, or how did this week go.
  6. Keep going. Apple Health sync for weight, sleep, steps and workouts, streaks, and friends with leaderboards.

How much does Appediet cost compared to MyFoodBuddy

Appediet keeps its prices inside the app. The App Store in-app purchase list is the only public source, and it shows ten Premium items. Each names its period, but most periods have more than one price, so what you pay depends on the offer the app shows you.

On the best yearly offer the two cost the same, $39.99. The weekly plans add up fast, $6.99 a week is over $360 a year, so check the period on the paywall before you tap. A 2026 reviewer reported a $43 charge for six months they did not mean to buy.

Is Appediet free, and what changed in 2026

Appediet is free to download, and for a long time it was usable for free with ads. In a 2024 review one user said free users got plenty and Premium was about $30 a year. Appediet’s terms also reserve the right to start charging for features that are free today.

That changed around March 2026. From versions 1.52 and 1.53 onward, App Store reviewers describe the same thing. Searching for a food, scanning a barcode or logging a photo brings up a Premium offer, and closing it brings it back. Several said they had used the free version for one or two years. One said they could only log from their history. Others said the switch from ads to a paywall came without warning.

The App Store listing still says the app contains advertising. If you want Appediet for free logging, try it before you build a routine around it.

MyFoodBuddy never had a free tier. You get a 7-day trial with everything, then $39.99 a year or $7.99 a month, with no ads.

How accurate is Appediet

Appediet’s App Store description calls its database accurate and verified, with over 1.5 million items and 108 nutrients. Its own website FAQ is more careful. It says AI calorie estimates are not always exact, that photo quality, hidden ingredients and portion size affect results, and that you should review and edit values.

Reviewers point at the same weak spots. In 2026 they reported barcode scans that logged the wrong protein, photo scans that overestimated calories, and staple foods like paneer with values they believed were off. One reviewer said entries rely heavily on peer-submitted data, and another said they had added their own foods to it for years. A September 2026 update lets you edit protein, carbs and fat in a scan result and choose a closer match, which addresses part of this.

MyFoodBuddy does not claim to be more accurate than anyone. What it does is show where numbers come from. Everyday foods match USDA FoodData Central, branded foods match Edamam, barcodes read Open Food Facts, and if you state a calorie number yourself, your number wins. Each card shows the values before anything is saved. See our About page.

How to cancel Appediet and whether you get a refund

  • Where to cancel. If you subscribed in the app, cancel in your Apple ID or Google Play subscriptions. Appediet’s terms say you may need to cancel through the store, and deleting the app does not stop billing.
  • When. At least 24 hours before the trial or period ends, or it renews.
  • Refunds. Appediet’s terms say payments are non-refundable and it does not give partial refunds mid-cycle, though it may offer one at its discretion. App Store refunds are requested from Apple.

Some reviewers say cancelling did not go smoothly. In September 2026 a Google Play reviewer said charges continued a month after cancelling, and Appediet replied asking them to email contact@appediet.net. An April 2026 App Store reviewer said a cancelled subscription renewed anyway.

Is Appediet worth it, and what do reviews say

Appediet has about 47,500 US App Store ratings averaging 4.8, and about 117,000 Google Play reviews averaging 4.7. Written App Store reviews are more mixed. Of the 100 most recent we read on October 18, 2026 (posted March to October 2026), 35 were one-star and 30 were five-star.

  • What people like. Easy, quick logging, the photo and barcode scanners, and how much it helped long-time users stay on track.
  • The paywall. Most one- and two-star reviews were about paying, especially search and scanning moving to Premium in 2026.
  • Pop-ups. Repeated Premium offers and analysis screens that are hard to close.
  • Accuracy. Wrong barcode values, photo estimates that run high and fields that cannot be edited.
  • Goals. Macro targets set as percentages, not grams, and a reviewer who disliked how weight gain was shown as bad. Appediet replied that it would look at more neutral wording.

Appediet replies to many reviews. It is worth it if you want camera-first logging with a deep nutrient list and will pay for Premium. If you came for a free tracker, recent reviews suggest that is no longer what you get.
